Van 1 Adventure

Preamble:

Another late one so not much to report other than that YHC wanted to share the SMR adventure van 1 had…only there was possibly more excitement on the way up the night before than during the race.

The Thang:

Basically relived the van 1 pre-race adventure through a beatdown.

Salient points are as follows:

• We had to make a special stop at Ingles for Snowman’s fuji apples
• YHC forgot to close his tab at the brewery during packet pickup so we had to go back after getting the fuji apples
• YHC got pulled over in the rental van on the way back to the brewery for failing to properly yield during a left turn and got lectured by an NC state trooper who was ready to go into full-on scared straight mode until he realized it would’ve taken me an hour to produce the documentation showing I was legally allowed to drive the van.  Once he realized my story likely checked out, he quickly realized he had better things to do.
• Jugdish forgot all of his running outfits at home (literally all 3 ziplock bags full of clothes) so we found an REI where he was fortunate enough to spend $250 on gear so he could avoid racing naked.
• We almost didn’t find the cabin due to a lack of cell reception and shitty directions.  Valley Girls “you know you’re going the right way when you pass the red truck and things start feeling murder-y” weren’t entirely helpful but not entirely inaccurate either.  He forgot to mention the Pet Sematary on the way up the path.
• We eventually did make it just as nightfall was hitting and rain was driving harder.
