Island Time in a parking lot

AO: The Hooch

When: 10/17/2022

QIC: Speedo

PAX (12): Angus, BallBoy, Boomer, Jetson, Maguire, McCracken, Meatball, Saint2O, Scrooge, Speedo, Sunshine, Tenderfoot

Preamble:

Last warm morning for a few days so I was looking forward to sweating a bit.  Some inspiration hit me late on Sunday and an Island Time pre-blast was posted.  Disclaimer was given and we were off.

Warm-O-Rama:

Mosey around toward Los Abuelos and back toward the movie theater then past the suckers at Iron Tribe who are paying to do the same things we were doing (kinda sorta).  We circled up by the revolving door restaurant for:

  • Weed pickers x10 iC
  • SSH x10 IC
  • Hillbillies x10 IC
  • Hangovers oyo
  • Michael Phelps oyo

I then introduced the Island Time ‘theme’ and challenged the pax to figure it out as we went along.  Any early guesses were automatically wrong until we got to the thang.

The Thang:

Mosey to the traffic circle at the church (is it still called Homer’s Donut?) where I described it as a clock.  We were standing at 12 o’clock and had to get to 3 o’clock by bear crawling and then performing 30 merkins.  Next, we traveled to 6 o’clock by crab-walking and did 60 squats.  On to 9 o’clock where we did 90 LBCs.  Pax were then instructed to pick a different mode of travel to get back to 12 o’clock.  Some did lunges, others did crawl bears and still others did crab walk opposite the way they did it the first time.  The pax were all curious about what exercise we would do back where we started.  YHC had everyone do 12 overhead claps just to keep ’em guessing.

Mosey to the church parking lot for some ‘Island’ suicides.  Starting at the beginning of the lot we ran to successive islands, did an exercise, and then ran back to the starting point. Here’s what we did:

  1. 5 burpees
  2. 10 alpha lunges
  3. 15 BBSUs
  4. 20 diamond merkins
  5. 25 jump squats

At this point, I asked the pax how many islands they thought there were and multiple guesses were offered up.  I just said there were more than 5 so off we went to continue:

6. 30 v-ups

7. 35 Carolina dry docks

8. 10 burpees but with an increasing number of merkins on each burpee.

After a quick walking 10-count, we moseyed back toward the starting line.  Halfway back we raised our hands over our heads as we ran to make up for the OH claps we missed back at the clock fun.  Another walking 10-count and we moseyed back to the Medlock parking lot.

Pax were asked to think of three modes of movement they really don’t like and use those three to travel to each of the first three lines in the parking lot.  I’m pretty sure the guys were being honest with themselves on this one as I saw some of the most-hated movements being done.

Back to the flag for a few rounds of mary until time was called.

COT:

Alpha Fall Convergence on Saturday 10/29 at the Boneyard.  Start time is 6:30 with pre-run and pre-ruck options.  We should have a speaker and the NLB guys will be working out with us as well.  Come join us!

Praise for Dinghy getting a job!

Prayers for Angus’ mom who is having back surgery.

Prayers for Scrooge who is having surgery later this week and will be out for a month.

Prayers for each of us to be a Light to someone who needs it today.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

I always enjoy working out with my brothers from the Hooch.  Thanks for working hard and pushing (pulling?) me along.  Great work by all!
