It was an honor to Q the 4th beatdown of The Clinic. What a great location with tons of potential. Woodstock has been off to a great start. Of the 25 PAX (4 FNGs) at today’s beatdown, 15 were Clinic originals!
The PAX met up by the stage and we moseyed up the stairs for the disclaimer and warm-up by the fountain. I wanted to be sure I gave the Vets a good workout, so I made sure to emphasize the need for modification for the newer PAX.
Warm-up
15 SSH IC
15 Windmills IC
10 Sumo Squats IC
10 Alt Planks IC
The Thang
We moseyed back down to the field in front of the stage to get to business. After The Mole stretched their legs on Monday, it was time for a 0.0 beatdown.
Animal 11s: YHC set out 2 rows of cones about 10 yards apart. Burpess on one end, mountain climbers on the other. To really turn up the intensity, we crab walked to the burpees and bear crawled back to the mountain climbers. Talk about a Crowd Pleaser! The shoulders were burning on this one. We ran some Mary while waiting for the 6, after a short rest, YHC disbanded the Mary and sent the Vets back out to help the newer PA finish off the workout. Never leave a man behind! Although, one of our FNGs took a quick break to splash some Merlot (welcome Chunk!), in that case, you give a man his space, then you pick up his 6.
Next it was time for something YHC likes to call the Paraplegic. Think Lt. Dan and Mucho Chesto (with a slight modification). Standard 1:4 ration on Lt. Dan, but after each round, we knock out some Mucho Chesto. YHC used Diamond, Regular, and Wide Merkins, along with Makhtar N’Diayes (right side, then left side). YHC was quite proud of the fight in the new PAX. They were really gassed after the 11s, but everyone stuck together and we all finished as one (mumble chattering) group.
COT
YHC reenforced the message that the Clinicians have heard a few times now, F3 is not about you, its about the man next to you, and the man not yet here. ISI takes over and that’s when we see all kinds of growth, well beyond the 1st F. You can already see new PAX catching bug, and we need them to because this location is dense with Sad Clowns and there is a ton of opportunity.
In light of Father’s Day this weekend, YHC shared something I read a while back that always helps bring me back to reality when work and other stress of life begin to cloud my perspective. It really captures the essence of F3; I am 3rd.
“Lay your life down. Your heartbeats cannot be hoarded. Your reservoir of breaths is draining away. You have hands, blister them while you can. You have bones, make them strain, they can carry nothing in the grave. You have lungs, let them spill with laughter. With an average life expectancy of 78.2 years in the US (subtracting eight hours a day for sleep), I have around 250,000 conscious hours remaining to me in which I could be smiling or scowling, rejoicing in my life, in this race, in this story, or moaning and complaining about my troubles. I can be giving my fingers, my back, my mind, my words, my breaths, to my wife and my children and my neighbors, or I can grasp after the vapor and the vanity for myself, dragging my feet, afraid to die and therefore afraid to live. And, like Adam, I will still die in the end.”
