YHC was down range last week exploring the sparsely inhabited island of Daufuskie. Accessible only by ferry, and sandwiched between Hilton Head and Savannah, Daufuskie Island is rich with history and cultural wonders. Just 5 miles long and 2.5 miles wide, the island made for a perfect place for a PAX of 1 to hit the gloom (adjusted for island time of course).
DAY 1
-hit the beach and headed south toward Bloody Point (southernmost tip of Daufuskie, getting its name from a bloody battle between Native Americans and European Colonists in the 18th Century)
-Merpee Mile was the Thang
-10 merkins or 10 burpees, alternating at each house passed toward Bloody Point
-first stop was a beautiful and secluded white house that apparently belongs to John “not sure why he dropped the Cougar” Mellencamp. 10 burpee toll paid
-next house was 10 merkins
-and so on it went for the next 1.4 miles down the beach
-for extra fun, I added 25 monkey humpers for every person I passed along the way
-luckily I only passed 1 person and 14 houses, so the toll was not too bad
-I made my way back and called it a day
DAY 2
-since this day landed on a Friday, I decided to mimic my favorite Friday workout back home at F3Alpha……..Bushwo.o.d
-just like the boys of Johns Creek, I set off on an easy mosey north toward Melrose, looking across the Calibogue Sound to Hilton Head and seeing the sun rising just over the water from the east
-lots of exploring around Melrose including the abandoned golf course and surrounding property
-once back, I had just enough time for an ocean swim (a signature move for the Bushwood boys)
DAY 3
-my last day on the island, so I wanted to soak it in the best way I knew how….. a barefoot beach run during sunrise
-kicked off the flip flops and headed south toward Bloody Point with the Tybee Island lighthouse just off in the distance
-just me and the pelicans, no other humans in sight
-eventually making my way back north with a gorgeous sunrise view off to the east over the ocean
COT
Many thoughts on how grateful I am for all of the blessings in life.
