NCAA Basketball Beatdown

Preamble:

Beatdown to celebrate the upcoming NCAA Basketball Season, which begins November 9. Beatdown was designed around team training typical for the sport (minus ball) and held on an actual basketball court at the Sports Park near Windjammer Post.
F3 Principals were integrated into the Beatdown with brief honorarium for some of the game’s great past men and leaders. We discussed leadership by example and how do do what you are passionate about “the right way.”

In honor of great basketball numbers worn:

#33 Larry Bird, KAJ – 33 Side-Straddle-Hop

#23 MJ – 23 forward and backward arm circles (one set for pre retirement, on set for second time around)

1962 Wilt Chamberlain 100 point game:

PAX broad jumped 100ft 2x, PAX ran baseline-to-baseline of second attempt did not best first attempt.

1962 Oscar Robertson averaged a triple-double full season

PAX made “Big O” circle and performed three “F3 Triple Doubles” (new term?) separated by a lap around the full court. F3 Triple Double consists of 10 Merkins (points), 10 Partner DownUps (assists), and 10 Jump Squats (Rebounds)

MJ 63 Point Playoff Game

PAX grouped in teams of three (3 on 3 style), but did not only use half the court! Each team ran a total of 64 lines (we beat MJ by 1 point!) total in “Suicide Sprint” style from baseline to foul line, mid court, far foul line and full baseline – alternating in a buildup.

Doing it the right way, my two favorite 10s.

PAX honored John Wooden with a Burpee for each of his 10 NCAA Championships as coach of the UCLA Bruins, one for his NCAA Championship as a player at Purdue, and three for his three 1st Team All-American selections at the NCAA DIV I level. John Wooden always did it the “right way and was a great community leader in a turbulent decade in our history.”

PAX honored Bill Russell with a Burpee for each of his 10 NBA Championships as a player with the Boston Celtics and did additional to recognize his two NBA Championships as a Coach. Bill Russell was a prominent figure during the Civil Rights movement. He challenged America to “be better”, but he did so constructively and not distinctively. Boston had a turbulent 60s in terms of race relations, but Russell’s influence was felt when Red Auerbach named him Head Coach of the Boston Celtics. Russell was the first black American ever named Head Coach of a Professional Sports team and he won NBA Championships in each of his first two seasons as Head Coach. Bill Russell always did it the “right way and was a great community leader in a turbulent decade in our history.”

Both Wooden and Russell embodied many core tenants of F3 leadership. Namely, get yourself in order first, then lead by example, motivate others, and make an impact.
