Surf and Turf at Bushwood Country Club

AO: Bushwood

When: 06/25/2021

QIC: BallBoy

PAX (9): Waterboy, Zohan, Millhouse, Sea Monkey, Angus, Maguire, Julius, Flo, BallBoy

Preamble:

Happy it was my turn to lead at BCC this week.  Even with the cooler evening weather the pool has felt great every time and is a nice change up from the beatings we receive on land.

Warm-O-Rama:

As we readied for warm-o-rama it became apparent that there were no PAX present with a keycard for the pool.  Thankfully, Julius rolled in with no time to spare, and no key, but with the right to scale the fence as needed since he pays his HOA dues.

PAX started with a mosey halfway up the big hill and back for…

SSH
Weedpickers
Imperial Walkers
Mountain Climbers

The Thang:

We moseyed to the as-yet-unused basketball court for our land beating.  As we got the 90s playlist going, PAX were to perform 10 reps of 4 exercises followed by a mosey (80 yards or so) out and back.  Repeat, reducing reps by 1 each round.

Exercises were:
Burpees
Step Ups
Merkins
Pull-ups (or some version)

YHC quickly realized this was going to take a while and didn’t want to cheat the anxious PAX out of their playtime in the pool so we wrapped up this fun around the 5-6 rep round and moseyed to the cement pond.

Once there, YHC explained the plan in way too many words, but here’s the summary.  4 PAX per group, 2 PAX on each end of the pool.  1 PAX from each side does a fast freestyle across the pool while the PAX left behind performed Dips on the pool edge.  When swimmers arrived, the dippers took off.  Count to 10 trips across the pool for each PAX.  Halfway through we switched to LBCs instead of Dips since our triceps were already so jacked and manly.

5 minutes remained (yikes, already?) so no chance of getting to the planned Dora so the PAX circled up in the deep end, YHC providing the football (or mini-rugby ball in Maguire’s case).  PAX would tread water with hands out of the water and play a little game of catch, throwing the football to someone across the circle.  If the ball was dropped, penalty was 10 overhead claps for everyone (and the real possibility of drowning).  A few mulligans were taken but after several rounds of overhead claps, we were all still alive though a little oxygen-starved and time was called.

COT:

Continued prayers for the family and friends Maquire’s buddy in S.A. who died of COVID this week.  Prayers for safe Summer travels for all and a good weekend!

Naked-Man Moleskin:

Great to have 3 2.0’s show up today.  Waterboy (16) might be getting a little old to be considered a 2.0 but great to have him, Millhouse and Sea Monkey join us today.  It’s a great example to set for the young ones and they all did a great job!
