The Sincerest Form of Flattery…

I signed up on the Rubicon Q sheet for today weeks ago and with nothing yet planned after I heard of Darth Visor’s passing, I searched on the F3Alpha site to try to find one of his previous beatdowns to copy since imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I found Darth’s VQ from June 2015 and since it took place right here at the Rubicon and because it would be the first Rubicon beatdown since his passing, I thought recreating that VQ would be a good way to pay tribute to him. I did not know Darth, but reading through the backblast made me laugh and I think gave me a little bit of insight to his sense of humor and personality. Definitely someone I’ll want to hang out with on the other side of Heaven some day!

After a very short disclaimer the PAX commenced a mosey to “the slice of Heaven between the diamonds” for some of our favorite warm-ups:

SSH x 15

Squats x 15

Imperial Walker x 15

Weed Picker x 15

Feeling loose – we mosey over to the big pavilion and partner up for a little Dora 1-2-3.

Step-ups (Both legs equals 1 rep) x 100

Dips x 200

LBCs x 300

“Whew 10 count needed!”

Next we mosey back over to the Field of Dreams and split up into two lines of 4 for an Indian Run Race! As if bragging rights was not enough motivation to run faster, I informed the PAX that the losers would get to enjoy 15 burpees OYO. “PAX you got’s to sprint….not jog when its your turn!”

The lead switched back and forth as we circled around the field but in the end (just as it happened in Darth’s VQ ) the race ended in a tie (didn’t even plan that) and we were all losers so 15 burpees for all! Someone suggested 7 1/2 burpees by each team and that suggestion was promptly ignored by YHC.

Needing to catch my breath, we commenced a little air chair against the fence.

Then mosey over to the Hill of Dreams for a Merkin ladder. 10 merkins at the bottom, run up the hill for 9, back down the hill for 8 and so on all the way down to 1.

We were apparently a bit faster than the PAX back in 2015 so at this point I deviated from the plan and added in some Partner Shrugs which was awesome after just finishing the Burpees and Merkin ladder – 20 reps each partner, then 30 reps each partner.

Next we mosey back to the flags for a round of Mary. Each PAX got to call an exercise some of which were Bonny Blairs, Buzz Saw, Low Dolly, Freddy Mercury, American Hammers, Gas Pumpers, and two more that I forgot.

As the clock hit 6:15 the final exercise was complete and we were done!
