On the fly, plus miles

AO: Academy

When: 2024-03-12

QIC: Caffey

PAX (7): Cookie, Devito, HotSauce, lumbergh, Mayhem, MillerTime

Preamble:

Checking the Q sheet Monday morning and saw an opening. Thought it might be an opportunity to try and challenge myself to come up with a Q a bit on the fly. I’m a planner, so I struggled with this and still had to do some recon work to make myself feel somewhat ok with the plan. Found a general path we would move and checked the sidewalks on Alpharetta Hwy finding out that the right hand side (heading north) was fairly well finished. Not 100%, but at least 75-80% complete for our purposes. So, the plan was set in motion.

Warm-O-Rama:

Nope, this is Academy.

The Thang:

Take off towards Rubicon because my favorite BadApple guy is leading there.

Thang 1: Wills drive time for Mercans

  • 25 diamond at intersection
  • 25 normal at first slows bump
  • 25 wide at second bump
  • 25 ranger at final speed bump

Now on to Wills Park and we are a little early to see my good buddy, Woody, so I have to kill some time. To the cheese grater!

Thang 2 First island in the cheese grater we do 3 burpees and increasing by 3 burpees at each new island until last island we do 15 (3, 6, 9, 12, 15). 45 total burpees and the timing is impeccable for a fly by to heckle, I mean say hello to, our buddy Woody.  Thang 3

Down to the playground by the basketball courts to start with Morning call. 5 Mercans in cadence with 5 pull-ups. 7 people total.

Next, to the wall for 50 donkey kicks OYO. The first 30 were manageable, but then it got real. My feet were slipping and form got terrible. Mayhem was like a jackrabbit and just hammered out those donkey kicks like it was his job! Plank for the 6 and we are off.

Mosey up the hill to gas station, across Alpharetta Hwy, and down Ferrari hill.

Thang 4

Partner up at the bottom of Ferrari hill. Squat it out while your partner sprints up the hill. Then flip. Repeat until 3 times sprinting up hill. Mayhem was again pushing hard on this one. Lumbergh was pushing hard on these as well, and even fended me off as I was trying to catch him on the last hill. Heart rate is high, but we have to start making our way back in the direction of Academy.

Mosey on right hand side of Alpharetta Hwy with almost complete sidewalk. Cut down Roswell Street and back to Wills Park to dog park loop.

Thang 4 Same partner and simple plan. One partner does V Ups while the other bear crawls to other side. Bear crawling partner calls out to other partner when they reach the other side. Partner who completed bear crawl does V Ups while the other is bear crawling to them.

Once complete, back to Academy

Thang 5 It wouldn’t be one of my BDs if we didn’t use the stadium. I say up and down for 7 minutes and hear some grumbling about “that’s it…” So, we stay on the stadiums for 4-5 minutes and then go over to the newly installed picnic tables. 50 dips OYO and then circle up to close it out. Flitters until time.

COT:

Prayers for Stu, his sister, and their entire family. Prayers for Devito and his M and prayers for me and M. beer ruck and cross ruck upcoming.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

Today I got a little outside my comfort zone and I feel pretty good about it. I planned the mileage (a little over 4 total), but didn’t have much else planned. It’s fun to push yourself and get outside your comfort zone once in awhile. Also, so much potential at Academy with an entire hour and countless places within running distance. Trying to soak it in and cherish these last couple months and really enjoy the fellowship that is F3 Alpha. This is a special group of men. I’m so thankful I found this group almost 3 years ago, and I’m honored to be able to share stories in the gloom with each of you. Caffey out!
