RIP Apollo Creed

AO: Rubicon

When: 2024-02-29

QIC: Lil Hurt

PAX (13): Avis, Cookie, Devito, Focker, Groundhog, HotSauce, Jackalope/Bayside, lumbergh, MillerTime, No-See-Um, Pinkey, Special K

Preamble:

Decided to honor the late, great Carl Weathers who passed away a few weeks ago who was in several of my favorite movies growing up.  Already had the Rocky music going strong as PAX arrived in the gloom.  After Groundhog came roaring in hot on 2 wheels, the warm up began after a brief disclaimer.

Warm-O-Rama:

  • SSH
  • Imperial Walkers
  • Weed Pickers
  • Wind Mills
  • Copper Head Squats
  • Arm Circles
Soft Mosey to around the parking lot to the gazebo.

The Thang:

I've done this board a few times now, but I keep coming back to it because its a pretty good workout, team effort, and most importantly it lets me blast my music.  The following was on my dry erase board, and after each set was done, PAX would erase it with the goal of clearing the entire board before time is called. 15 sets of 25 reps
  • Jump Squats
  • Dercans
  • Step Ups
  • LBCs
  • Mountain Climbers
  • Dips
  • Curls
  • Shoulder Taps
  • Table Shrugs
  • Flutter Kicks
10 sets of:
  • 5 Burpees
  • Running laps
  • Bernie Sanders
  • Bear Crawls
  • 5 Apollo Creed Burpees
  • Rocky Balboas (curb kicks)
The one armed Apollo Creed Burpees were challenging to say the least, but the PAX got after it anyway, especially Devito and Hot Sauce.  Special props also to Miller Time who led a group of PAX doing synchronized Balboa curb kicks.  I almost changed the music to an Irish tune as it looked just like a professional River Dance. About half way in, Special K asked me what are we curling, to which I didn't have an answer to as I forget to bring my cinder.  He graciously went and retrieved his from his car so all was well.  We had a hard stop @ 6:05am for  some Apollo vs. Rocky beach run/wind sprints up at the parking lot, inspired by "Eye of the Tiger".  Everyone parted up at the top of the parking lot and raced to the flag for 2 rounds.  The winner did 3 squats while the loser did 3 burpees.  They were supposed to perform a jump hug after each race but failed to execute on that one.  There were some closely contested races and impressive speeds for a bunch of middle-aged dudes.  Hopefully nobody pulled a hammy or tweaked something. COT:

Carl Weathers was a legend in my book and when I heard he had died recently, I wanted to pay tribute.  It's hard to beat the Rocky movies, Predator and Happy Gilmore.  Hill seeker pre-event was announced as well as an upcoming beer ruck in a few weeks.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

I hope everybody got a decent workout in and had a few laughs.  Thanks for allowing me to reminisce a bit and for putting up with my cheesy music.  I always have a good time when I Q and you guys to do too.  Till next time!
