Preamble:
There’s a Yiddish proverb that goes, “Man plans, and God laughs.” Today was going to be the October Sports Medley, giving space to honor the Gladiators of our time who compete for glory, fame, riches, and most importantly, our entertainment. October, April, and the last week of December are the best months of the sports year, so the idea was to build off of Brownie’s Baseball Playoff BD last week. And also we’re the Gladiator, so there’s that connection too. There was even a pavilion plan in case the rain was too rainy.
But see, I’m deathly allergic to lightning. It’s bad. I get all swollen, everything itches, and occasionally my heart stops. Don’t ask how they test for this specific allergy. It’s shocking. It’s almost as not-fun as the test for the Bullet Allergy where they shoot you full of all kinds of stuff…
Anywell, 3 prerunners showed up at 4:45 to a real mess. Rain, lightning, thunder. Scratch-Off Cantore was reporting live that it was indeed bad weather. So, we sat in our cars staring at our radar hoping that the blob of yellow, orange, and red would go away.
Spoiler: it didn’t.
So, when a bunch of idiots still showed up, I had a decision to make. I had my aforementioned condition to be concerned with, AND, totally legitimate studies show that the Lightning Allergy is 99% undiagnosed in the US and Canada due to liability concerns with testing. The decision, of course, was whether or not to stage my own Q-mutiny and head to Waffle House.
Q-mutiny it was.
Warm-O-Rama:
Warm up was to stand around and see if people thought I was kidding about WaHo. Laces, disappointed, did at least 3 mercans because, “I gotta do something.”
The Thang:
I wasn’t kidding. We were going to WaHo. Can one lead a mutiny on his own meticulously planned Q? If so, would that be called a Q-tinny or QUIT-iny? Yes. Yes to both. All it takes is a special kind of leadership unseen since the peak of the inbred monarchs in 18th & 19th-Century Europe.
It was a delightful little road trip, the food was great, the company was slightly above average, and good times were had. It would have been better if Laces and Fire Drill didn’t bail.
COT:
- Still praying for Bo Knows, Mrs. Bo Knows and their family.
- Convergence at the Boneyard/Newtown Park. It’s only a couple of weeks away, and it’s gonna be totally awesome… And, if there’s lightning, there’s a super yummy bagel place right across the street.
Naked-Man Moleskin:
We went to WaHo instead of working out. That’s the American Dream. It’s also super soft. I guess we’ll just have to wait for my November Q to see what the October Sports Medley had in store. I’m sure all the jokes will still be super relevant by then.
I’d like to respectfully add to the Yiddish adage. That if you make a plan and suspect that God’s laughing, go ahead and laugh with Him.
Scratch-Off, out.
