Preamble:

The Memorial Day holiday weekend shouldn’t just be about the unofficial beginning of summer and spending time at the water and grilling out, it’s about the many who’ve given their lives for us to have that opportunity.

6 pax showed up at 0445 for a 2 mile pre ruck

Warm-O-Rama:

The Thang:

To remember a great American, Lt Michael Murphy, we embarked on a (modified) Murph to kickoff the Memorial Day weekend.

– 1 mile run (3 laps around the park)
– 100 Burpees (Rx would be pull-ups)
– 200 merkins
– 300 squats
– 1 mile run

Rx is to complete straight thru in that order but was modified by most pax to split the pain into 4, 5 or 10 sets.

Weighted vests were also worn by YHC and Skäl to add to our pain and remember those who gave all for our great country.

COT:

YHC queued up a playlist of songs about America, our culture, soldiers, gold star families and even a few that were written in protest. There was some chatter amongst the pax during Born in the USA, but was also recognized by the pax that what makes our country great is that we have the freedom to protest, and speak our feelings without fear of legal persecution. Never take that freedom for granted.

As you enjoy your holiday weekend, take time to remember those who gave all for your freedom, and the gold star families that they left behind.

God Bless America

Naked-Man Moleskin:

YHC felt the urge to grab the flag to run with it for the last lap of the 2nd mile, there’s something about the Stars and Stripes that being a sense of pride and honor which feed an energy that can’t be matched.

This weekend, I will be thinking about the family of Army Spc. Jeffery Wershaw, who wanted nothing more his whole life than to be a soldier fighting for America and was taken too early at just 22 years old, fighting in Iraq on July 6, 2003.
