Preamble:

Back in the spring of 2019 I did a series of workouts at Rubicon that usually centered around a theme or just took a big swing at strange ideas. I labeled it lumberghathon and enjoyed the creative side of building a workout and challenging others. I couldn’t let 2020 go without doing it again so I found a week of open workouts in the region to make this a traveling show, worked on some graphics, and wrote out a personalized plan for each AO.

Today I got to bring it home to Rubicon with a fun game of chance.

Warm-O-Rama:

We mosey to the pool lot with some butt kickers and high knees. A round of SSH, WP, and HBs and we grab a rock and head to the FOD.

The Thang:

Today the workout is left up to chance. I grabbed a piece of scrap wood and painted one side for better visibility. We will flip the coin and do the exercise based on this board:

We toss the coin and do the exercise. Go through each of the 6 lines then take a lap around the field. But how many reps?
Reps are based on each round. The first set through the board was 10x. The second set was 20x and so on.

Starting with 10 Merkins the coin seemed to favor blue but brown started to show up and we had a pretty even split. Burpees showed up in round 2 (20x) and 3 (30x).

We got through the board four times and it is coming close to time. With one more daring flip from Devito we get 50…….merkins. Before we knock them out we bring the rocks back and circle up at the flag. A little mary brings us to time.

YHC failed on having a playlist ready. Halfway through I grab my phone for a little music. I am in debt to bring a proper speaker and a better prepared playlist. That sparked plenty of discussion of playlists we heard in 2020.

COT:

Such a great showing by Rubicon as we filled both Cookie’s car and Devito’s cab and truck bed. We estimate over 1,000 lbs. gathered at Rubicon alone and 100 or more toys. So awesome to think about the kids and families that will benefit from this and have a good Christmas.

Thanks to the Rubicon for being my home AO all this time. We have seen great growth this year and I am looking forward to 2021 with this group. Thrilled I got to bring back lumberghathon and appreciate the enthusiasm people bring to it.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

TNT by me:

Around this time last year Cookie and I were comparing Strava stats. We were at about 600 miles for 2019 and so we challenged each other to hit 800 in 2020. Through monthly check ins and having that personal accountability we both smashed that goal when we hit 800 miles in October.
This was made achievable because of groups like Thundermeat, speed and run challenges from Mayhem during the original lockdown, and pre runs with Lefty.

Pitstop backed this up by noting we are talking about this now in early December, and not in January when you may already be behind. With the support of others he is working on how to give back in 2021 to support others.

And so the challenge is this:
What do you want to achieve in 2021? Mileage is just a piece of it. Ideas can include

  • Attend a certain number of BD’s
  • Qing once a month or more
  • Pickup rucking, biking, or running
  • Donate x hours of time in supporting the community

Find others in our circle with similar goals and keep track with each other. I am open to new ideas.
