Full Circle … lots of pain

AO: Academy

When: 2024-05-07

QIC: Caffey

PAX (13): Avis, Cookie, Devito, Hollywood, HotSauce, lumbergh, Mayhem, MillerTime, No-See-Um, Stroller, Sweeper, uga

Preamble:

After some scheduling conflicts on my end, and a Lumbergh callout for double booking, I grabbed the Academy Q and the goodby tour began. As I contemplated my strategy, I couldn’t help but remember my first Academy BD where I left thinking how difficult it was and that I never wanted to do that again. That’s was December of 2021 and here we are nearly 3 years later and I’m still showing up. So, after reaching back to 2021, I decided to end my time at Academy the same way I started it … with a board of pain, credit to Devito’s diabolical mind. I gave one heck of a disclaimer to start things off and informed everyone that today would be difficult. I think I delivered.

Warm-O-Rama:

We don’t warm up here, if anything our short little run to the board was our warm up.

The Thang:

Well, with only 8 days to go in the Alpha my house is all packed up and finding a board was a challenge. However, the lid of a plastic bin and a dry erase marker will do. I taped that to a random piece of wood and we were good to go. As I said, this plan was diabolical, so here it is. After completing the rep count (e.g., the first 50 burpees) you run to the front of Academy to touch the mailbox and back. Then go to the next exercise and repeat all the way to the end. Let’s see how far we can get down the board.

50 burpees

150 SSH

100 plank jacks

100 Mercans

100 squats

150 LBCs

100 Dry docks

100 jump squats

100 American Hammers (S)

100 shoulder taps (A)

100 sumo squats

150 mountain climbers (A)

100 diamond Mercans

100 lunges (s)

150 flutters

100 wide Mercans

100 overhead claps

100 burpees

I think Devito and HotSauce made it the furthest (Avis, Mayhem, Stroller, and others at their heels) and they made it to Diamond Mercans. I stopped us with a few minutes remaining because it wouldn’t be one of my BD’s if I let a perfectly good stadium go to waste. To the stadiums in line:
  • first time up normal and down normal
  • second time up skipping a stair and down normal
  • third time up both feet toe tapping on each step leading with one leg
  • fourth and final time up switching leading foot and toe tapping again.
back to the flag and done!

COT:

Prayers for Cookie’s cousin and her baby who will be laid to rest here soon.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

Wow, I said this to wrap up the BD but I’m so thankful for this group of men for pushing me each week. 3 to 5 years ago I would have never of dreamed of doing something so difficult but also enjoying the fellowship of this group of men. F3 Alpha is something special, with guys like Devito, MillerTime, Cookie, Lumbergh, Mayhem, NoSeeUm, Stroller, and many others pushing us daily to make us stronger physically and mentally. I, for one, will be forever grateful to each and every person I have encountered in my 3 years of F3 Alpha. I hope to take some of what I have learned from each and every leader I have encountered and bring it to TN, but you all get all the credit for being awesome humans. Two additional items:
  1. Thanks to Lumbergh for the super kind gesture of suggesting to name the stadium in my honor- Caffey’s Companion and I can’t remember the last word for the life of me but it was awesome. Truly grateful for your friendship and kindness my friend. You are the definition of a HIM!
  2. It seems like our friend Sweeper may have found a new home at Academy! This guy showed up for his first Academy BD and absolutely crushed a difficult BD. You sir, are an example of someone who make difficult things look easy, goes full throttle, but also has the kindness to back it all up. Keep up the good work!
In the end, it’s two simple words for each of you… thank you! Caffey out!
