Stadion Launch

Preamble:

We started the Gladiator Run Club roughly at the beginning of the year and have probably been averaging about 4 PAX per run. Sounds like enough to make it official.

YHC felt that the Octave of Easter would be a great time to launch this thing with a donut run (since YHC was released from his standard no-dessert Friday penance).

Put out the call for several weeks, sure that PAX would love the idea of a shorter run plus a stop to pick up donuts. Alas, several regulars called out and it was just YHC and Dreamer when 0515 hit.

Our Centennial cut-through was almost ruined by a series of locked gates. Fortunately, we were able to take the trail out through Hillside.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

The Stadion was an ancient running race (and the associated unit of length). With our Gladiator theme, it felt like a good way to preserve the ties to the original AO, but also establish a unique identity.

Students of history will recall that ancient Olympians competed in the nude…that will not be part of the Stadion AO.

YHC also wanted to remove the “club” from the GRC name. The QSource talks about what a Club is and why it cannot have the same impact as a Team.

There is nothing wrong with a Club, but it is not an organism that can accomplish anything other than facilitate Proximity. To be Purposeful, a Team is needed.

So Stadion was born.
