Dawsonville is Awesomeville

AO: Starting Line

When: 09/01/2022

QIC: Speedo

PAX (9): Ace Ventura, Janeway, Lightweight, Script Kiddie, Sirmixalot, Speedo, Suarez, Zuckerburg/Snorlax, Pebbles

Preamble:

After a reconnaissance drive up to Dawsonville over the weekend YHC knew exactly where to go in the daylight.  Add pitch black and foggy plus the gates to the park were closed and it was a bit dicey for just a few seconds after arrival.  Driving behind the grocery store I saw some cars/trucks parked and figured that had to be F3.  After I got out I could hear a group of men talking in the park and figured the pre-ruckers had just returned and all was good.  Grabbed my boards of pain, Bluetooth speaker, and phone and met up with the guys just as 5:30 came around.

Warm-O-Rama:

Mosey away from where the main event would be happening for:

  • SSH IC x15
  • Weed pickers IC x15
  • Hillbillies IC x15
  • World’s Greatest Stretch OYO
  • Michael Phelps OYO

The Thang:

Mosey down a very dark path to where we would start.

Thang 1

Partner up for Dora BOMBS.  P1 does the exercise while P2 runs to the top of the stairs and back then flapjack.  Each partner does each exercise once including:

  • Burpees
  • Overhead Claps
  • Merkins
  • Big Bois
  • Squats

Each AO has its own culture and it was fun to get to know these guys during the workout.  This group arguably has a higher IQ than the average AO (don’t ask me how I know this) and we somehow got to talking about the weight of the air we are pressing when doing air presses.  Inquiring minds…

Thang 2

Mosey to the pavilion where we started where a board of pain awaited.  The concept was simple enough.  Four exercises, 20 reps each.  The main issue was that they were all chest/upper body exercises including:

  • Hand release merkins
  • Abyss derkins (with cinders)
  • Dips
  • Mike Tysons

Exercises could be done in any order…just need to complete them all.  Many groans were expressed which made me think this was tough for everyone and not just me.

Thang 3

Run to another pavilion (no idea if they have names) where the second board of pain awaited.  This time it was four leg/lower body exercises.  Pax were told to perform 20 reps of each in any order they chose.  Exercises included:

  • Step-ups
  • Monkey humpers
  • Jump squats
  • Calf raises

We then returned to ‘station 1’ which I called station 3 and did 10 more reps of each of the upper body exercises.  We also returned to the leg station for 10 more reps of those fun exercises.

Just enough time remained for some sprints.  Pax lined up at the Starting Line (see what I did there) and were told to run 50% max speed to a selected spot and perform 5 merkins.  Once done, pax were told to run 75% speed back to the first point and perform 10 merkins.  Then it was 100% speed and 15 merkins.

On the last round, YHC proudly called out my age and discovered I was the oldest of the bunch.  We would sprint to the other end and for every pax I beat, the entire group would owe a burpee.  I think we did 4 or 5…let’s just go with 5 since it makes me feel fast.

Time enough for a little mary and then 6:15 was upon us.

COT:

Several different prayers lifted up for cancer diagnoses or suspected cancer.  Prayers for the guys training for BRR and GrowRuck (including Sirmixalot).  Praise for strong bodies, clear heads, great weather, and brothers who have our backs.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

It was a pleasure to work out with you guys.  It’s a good reminder of how big this region is and that we are all in this together.  Thanks for hosting me, for the good coffee and conversation afterward, and for continuing to keep the lights on in Dawson County.
