Preamble:

YHC started coming to the posh Windjammer beatdowns about a year ago!  It was time to celebrate and take a walk down memory lane of some of the most memorable beatdowns.

Warm-O-Rama:

I arrived in plenty of time (1 minute early) and after a disclaimer where I was rudely heckled by both Haha and our FNG False Start we moseyed over to the dam for some:

  • SSH
  • Weedpickers
  • Hillbilies
  • Mountain Man Poopers – led by False Start

The Thang:

After a short mosey to the boat launch we worked out our legs.  One of the most memorable beatdowns I attended early in my Winjammer career included a 4 corners workout led by False Start.  I thought it was awful…so I wrote it down.  It went a little something like this:

  • 25 squats
  • 25 Bonnie Blairs
  • 25 Anton Onos
  • 25 Monkey Humpers (modified from the original calf raises)

We lunged to get from station to station.  It was just as terrible today as it was a year ago.

The next memorable moment recreated my first (and almost last) Q at the Windjammer where we got yelled at for playing basketball (long story).  Today we did a modified, quieter version, of that workout.  We split into two teams and did the following:

  • B ig boy situps (30)
  • merican hammers (30)
  • eg lifts (30)
  • Jo (30)

Pre-workout YHC set up a Little Tykes hoop (much quieter than a real ball) so we could have a little competition. For each letter the team would pick a shooter.  All the PAX would then do the letter workout and after completion the shooters would line up and shoot.  Whichever team made the shot first got to choose some exercises while the losing team had to run the hill and re-consider their shooting form.  Team 2 was full of stud lefty shooters and dominated 3-1.  However, Team 1 did get an excellently timed Gloom Boom from the always reliable Milli Vanilli.

Next we Indian ran(ish) back to the rock pile in the parking lot.  Time to re-create a divisive memory, but it’s important to keep the fight alive.  The next exercise was called “The Protest”.  We each wandered over to the round about and held our rock over our head while imagining the rock was a protest sign that said something like “Bring back 6:00” or “Make Windjammer Late Again”, or “6:00 Forever” etc.  We wandered around the round about 6 times in honor of our dearly departed 6:00 start time.  A few chants were even heard.  Everyone enjoyed it except for False Start.

COT:

Santa Ruck on Saturday.  If you can’t make it but would like to donate still, bring it on Friday.  The Windjammer had a great showing of donations this morning.  What a great group of generous men.

Prayers for Mark and his family and Andrea and her family.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

One of the best decisions I made within the last year was to join the Windjammer.  I’ve been a part of some really great workouts, made some awesome friends, and had some fun memories.  Thanks for being so welcoming to me and here’s to another fun year!
