No Burpee Challenge Failure. Boom.

Preamble:

There were a lot of Burpees done in recent beatdowns and YHC thought to give the PAX an opportunity to avoid them, with a No Burpee Challenge. A series of challenges with Burpees for failures.

The morning was cold. Sleep was sparse and if I wasn’t the Q I would have fartsacked. I’m pretty sure half of my Q sign-ups are to avoid fartsacking. It does work.

Warm-O-Rama:

Mosey around the soccer field. Run backwards on one of the short ends, sprint on the other short end.

Circled up for Weed Pickers and Baby Arm Circles.

I opened today’s challenge with 21s – 21 SSH done in IC, but only the first 5 are audible. The rest done in silence. The goal is for everyone to finish together.

We didn’t.

5 Burpees penalty. Not a promising start.

2nd attempt was much better.

The Thang:

Moseyed to the parking lot that’s to the left of the tunnel.

For the main Thang of the No Burpee Challenge, we each had to do 300 Burpees.

But… we’ll have 22 minutes to substitute the Burpees with some other exercises. At the end of the 22 minutes the group will share however Burpees are left among the PAX. So if someone finished early they should go help someone else.

Every 10 Burpees could be replaced with one of the following:

1 Run (short loop, up the stairs and back), 30 Merkins, 30 Bonnie Blairs (single count), 30 Imperial Walkers (single count), 30 Squats, 30 LBS, 30 American Hammers (alpha count), 30 Freddie Mercury (alpha count) or 30 Mountain Climbers (alpha count).

Can’t do more than 5 times the same exercise. YHC didn’t want PAX to just run loops the whole time.

There was some confusion, maybe, as some PAX just couldn’t handle the temptation and actually started doing the Burpees, instead of replacing them with other stuff.

Most finished on time and there were enough who did extra to cover for those who did not finish.

Still, because some did do Burpees, I cannot say the challenge was won. Tie, maybe.

Off we went, moseying to the playground. And since we’re at the playground, let’s play a children game – 7 Boom. Rules are simple – circle up. One by one call out the numbers from 1 to 100, doing squats in each. However, if the number to be called has the digit 7 or is a multiplication of 7 then the number is not called and instead you say Boom and we all do a Jump Squat. A sample can be – …12, 13, Boom, 15, 16, Boom, 18…

If done correctly it will be 70 squats and 30 jump squats. Penalty was increasing number of Burpees (1 for the 1st mishap, 2 for the 2nd…) and going back 10 numbers.

It was NOT done correctly. First failure was done when 7 was called out loud (so we started over), then 28 and YHC forgot where else. We barely made it to 60s and already had 5 penalties, so I called this one a bust and moved on.

Moseyed to the pavilion. Pick a coupon. Pick a partner.

Next challenge was a Partner EMOM: 70 sec work, 20 sec rest. 5 Sets. In each 70 sec the 2 partners had to do 30 reps of 4 exercises, 120 reps in total – Curls, Skull Crushers, Flatter Kicks (alpha count) and Jane Fonda. The partners could divide it however they wanted (e.g. each does 30 reps of 2 exercises or each does 15 reps of all 4). If the partners do not finish all the reps in the 70 seconds, they owe 3 Burpees each during the 20 second rest period.

The only failure was mine, when I realized I started the wrong TABATA sequence. We restarted.

YHC realized we’re not going to have the time to finish all 5 sets and stopped after the 3rd or 4th. When I lamented that we won’t have time for the 5 minutes Balls to the Wall challenge the PAX’s cries of sorrow did not sound sincere.

At least no Burpees were done in this challenge.

We returned the coupons and moseyed back to the theoretical flag (we had none today) and did not have time for Mary.

 

COT:

Prayers for Stroller’s dad’s health. We were glad to hear he’s doing better.

Next week NLB workout at 4pm. April 17th convergence at the Yard. Another convergence is scheduled for May but location TBD as it cannot be done at the Wreck as planned.

Today was fun. Loved the laughs. It doesn’t matter how cold it’s outside or how tired I feel inside, I’ve never regretted coming to a beatdown (and often regretted when I missed one). The fellowship is amazing and I’m so thankful to god that I found this group and had the brains to not quit after the first beatdown. Maybe I cannot trust them to know the multiplication table when under pressure, but I know that my life these last 3 years plus were better than ever because of each and every one of them.
