Preamble:

Today is the day! Groundhog Day! Oh, and my birthday. I made the trip over to my second home at The Jammer to Q on my actual birthday (thanks Zohan!).

Today promised some “balmy” weather after the 20 degree mornings but 43 felt much colder with the wind blowing hard.

In my pre-blast I teased out that: “At 61 life is an up hill climb. But life is better when you bring your friends.”  Yes, we will bring our friends.

Warm-O-Rama:

After a disclaimer I reminded the guys of the pre-blast and the friends we were bringing were not only our F3 friends gathered around but also our Girlfriends! Everyone grab a girl and we mosied to the dam.

At the dam flag:

  • SSH
  • Weed Pickers
  • Imperial Walkers

The Thang:

Simple task this morning: We are ascending Windjammer hill up Lake Windward to Clubhouse Drive. There are 6 drives to the right along the way. At each drive:

  • Squats
  • Curls
  • Upright Row
  • Overhead Press
  • Skull Crushers

6 stops X 10 reps each plus one more at the top is 61. But it is Groundhog Day so do it twice, 20 reps each exercise for 122 reps each.

At the top the lead dogs hit the pavement for Mary for the six.

On the way down the plan was to do Merkins x20 at each road BUT we have 9 minutes to make it back to the flag. So just a return run.

Lead dogs at the flag run back and help the back of the pack take a load off.

COT:

Announce-o-rama:

  • Scorch Trial Friday morning downtown Alpharetta 0530 at the green
  • Barkley 5K at Widowmaker Saturday 0700
  • Climb Killi Challenge

Naked-Man Moleskin:

Would the 25 year old me have believed that the 61 year old me would be out in the dark at 0530 on my birthday leading men up a hill with sandbags on our backs? Probably not. Would I have it any other way? Nope.

Men, you all make me a better person. Thank you for meeting me in the gloom.

The lessons I learn again and again in the gloom:

  1. Its not about me.
  2. There is always someone faster
  3. The guy in the back is working just as hard as the guy in the front (if not harder!)
  4. Being a leader is not being the best. Its not being the fastest. It is motivating others to change from the status quo. And we don’t always want to move from the status quo.

Keep your eyes up on where you want to go. Advance the ball that way. Just make progress. Little bricks make a big wall!

Ha-ha out.
