Bring the Rain
AO: Big Creek
When: 05/12/2021
QIC: Whiz
PAX (7): Whiz, Crab Cake, Inseam, Swiper, Mr. Hand, 5-way, Snowman
Preamble:
YHC went to bed hoping for an extended window of dryness in the gloom this morning but woke up to steady showers instead…no matter. Off to the AO to meet up with Inseam and Crab Cake for the pre-run and to finalize the thang in my mind before the main event.
Warm-O-Rama:
Mosey down to the track and circle up for some SSH, sprinkler, hillbilly, and Moroccan nightclub IC.
The Thang:
Head into the track and line up at the near corner where PAX were given instructions for the modified Run DMC routine as follows:
- sprint the straightaway
- duck walk the first half of the turn
- 20 shoulder tap merkins
- crab walk the rest of the turn
- rinse and repeat for one full lap
At this point the rain was driving down on us hard and all PAX were offered a great opportunity to settle in and build some grit and mental toughness throughout the duration.
2nd round swapped the duck walk for bear crawls and the crab walk for broad jumps. This was fairly sucky and we realized it was because we were traveling counter-clockwise around the track. Sorry for YHC’s faux pas fellas. Switched directions for the next thang to return balance to the universe.
At this point, YHC was striving to get Inseam 5 miles total between the pre-run and BD so we switched to a modified Cooper (YHC had grand plans for what’s to become the “Super Duper Cooper” but quickly realized that is a complete thang itself and audibled accordingly).
- lap around the track
- 10 squats, 10 merkins, 10 LBC
- rinse and repeat adding 5 reps to each exercise after each lap
We hit our goal of completing 4 laps and hit the official 5 mile mark for Inseam on the way back to the flag, where we arrived with 3 minutes to spare. Since Snowman was disappointed that we audibled out of the burpees for the Cooper, all PAX were offered the reprieve of 20 burpees OYO to close us out. A few PAX finished early and knocked out some freddy mercury to end the session.
COT:
Praises for being in a position to choose to workout early in the rainy gloom when some are forced to sleep in the same conditions.
Naked-Man Moleskin:
Swiper brought an outstanding TNT this morning about how hope is the only attitude/outlook/sentiment that will never leave you unless you choose to abandon it. Courage, love, and happiness can all leave without your choosing but hopefulness will always be with you until you turn away from it.
The book titled Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl explores this concept in more depth and is an excellent read that YHC highly recommends.
Also major T-claps to Inseam for getting out for the pre-run in the rain. Very easy day to fartsack, especially as a newer running trying to find his groove with it.
