Toddlers Play

AO: The Norseman

When: 10/13/2020

QIC: Dr. Rico

PAX (10): Ha Ha, Nacho Libre, White Claw, TMI, Shooter, Jethro, Crikey, Striper, Newman (FNG)

Preamble:

This was my first Q.  When I signed up I got two pieces of advice:

  • Nacho Libre – Over plan
  • Birdie – Have fun

So that’s what I did.

Warm-O-Rama:

After a quick welcome to our FNG we moseyed on over to the pavilion for:

  • 10 Side Straddle Hops
  • 10 Imperial Walkers
  • 10 Weed Pickers

As this was my first Q, of course I didn’t lead the counting correctly.  I was alerted to this by a puzzled look on Nacho Libre’s face as we started counting the Side Staddle Hops and then Ha Ha let me know that I needed to say the word “exercise” as we started our Imperial Walkers.  Thank goodness for the F3 veterans to be patient with us and keep us straight.

The Thang:

We moseyed over to one of the playgrounds and began our “play.” I go to this playground all the time with my 2 year old son and we both love going down the slides.  So when Birdie told me to “make it fun” I knew right away what we were going to do.

The main piece of the workout was a circuit of:

  • 10 pull-ups
  • Then run to the pavilion for 30 squats
  • Then run to the other playground for 50 dips
  • Then back to the pavilion for 30 Monkey Humpers (our FNG somehow already knew what Monkey Humpers were without explanation which I found both disconcerting and impressive at the same time)
  • Then run back to the playground

We did that circuit 5 times.

However, there was one catch.  In order to “play” a bit more, after each exercise at a playground each of us needed to find a slide a go down it.  Now I don’t know about anyone else, but I certainly enjoyed listening to everyone lumber around in the dark and not so gracefully get down these slides.  I know I wasn’t the only one who slid out of the slide onto my butt instead of landing softly on my feet.

We finished up in the parking lot with a round of:

  • 50 LBCs
  • Side shuffle to the middle of the parking lot
  • 50 Freddie Mercurys
  • Side Shuffle back and repeat expect replace the Side Shuffles with Bear Crawls.

I intended to do this last part on the football field but we didn’t have time.  I guess if that was the worst thing that happened in my first Q then I’m ok with that.

COT:

Our FNG, Dane, was dubbed “Newman.”  He told us his life story and we asked a bunch of questions but a name just wasn’t coming to us.  He even offered a few suggestions…but they were too cool so we shot them down.  We settled on Newman by learning that his favorite movie is Jurassic Park (he obviously has great taste) and we discussed that the first person who get’s eaten in the movie is the same guy who plays Newman on Seinfeld (though it turns out that he isn’t actually the first person eaten in the movie).

He seems like he will make a great addition to the group! He is newish to the area, originally from Fayetteville, Arkansas and we are glad to have him!  He’s big into wrestling so I’m sure him and Nacho Libre will get along just great.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

Thanks for having having a good time with me!  I certainly enjoyed being the Q and look forward to more in the future.
