‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the Wreck, not a creature was stirring except for Sprocket. The coupons were left in the ditch with great care, in hopes that Q would forget and leave them right there.
The PAX chose smartly to rise from their beds, as FOMO was clearly stirring in their heads. Sprocket wisely left the weight-vest behind lock and key, while Grease Monkey showed up in his M’s best capri’s.
On Zima, on Bronco, on Couch and Squeegee, on Deadbeat, on Foley, on Circus and Swamp Donkey. With 17 PAX reporting ready to ball, it was time to dash away, dash away, dash away all.
Warm-Up:
As 0530 struck and wind starting to chill, time to lead PAX on a run up the hill. Around the lake and up the last knoll with a kick, circle-up by the fields while waiting for the six:
- SSH’s
- Abe Vigoda’s
- Hillbilly’s
The Thang:
The moon on the field despite the lack of snow, gave a luster of mid-day to the objects below. When what to PAX’s wondering eyes should arise, but a miniature tree and dozens of Grinch’s surprises.
Circle ’round the tree for a seasonal beat, each PAX taking turns selecting a treat. Reindeer kicks, Polar Bear Crawls, Bonnie Blairs all around, each turn resulting in less mumble-chatter to be found. Merkin Wreath of Fire, Apollo Ono’s, Monkey Humper’s delight, Q kept on waiting for the gift of the night. It wasn’t until Circus, the PAX who dared, chose the one gift that would have them all scared. As he read the card and spoke barely a thought, it was clear that Festivus would be one gift that Grinch clearly brought.
As YHC instructed the PAX on the game, it was clear that they’d be in for some Christmas Eve pain. 7 rounds of 7 reps, with running between, Burpees, Merkins, BBS’s were the gift from the mean. With negotiations from Grease Monkey and protests a plenty, the PAX were not in the mood for Burpees more the seventy. YHC decided to audible at 5, as it was clear at that stage that the PAX would barely survive.
Back to the tree with 15 to go, to finish the gifts before closing the show. With all the presents open and PAX clearly done, it was time to finish that Festivus that we had begun. Back to the goal-line for one last round, BBS and Merkins sandwiched by Burpees abound. With 5 minutes to go and PAX starting to drag, it was time for everyone to mosey back to the flag.
A quick round of Mary until Q gave the whistle, and down PAX went like the down of a thistle. Gathering of gifts for foster kids and white elephants to share, it was clear that the spirit of Christmas was in the air. We bonded as brothers on this clear morn, and took a moment to acknowledge the day before Jesus was born. What a wonderful delight to be amongst these HIM’s on Chistmas Eve, as we all bowed our heads to reflect on the year that was achieved.
Merry Christmas everyone!
AFLAC out.
