Preamble:
Call it a good day when the biggest question on many PAX minds was whether the 4 corners streak would continue at the Gladiator. The Lord blessed us with a cooler morning and 15 guys posted to find out what was in store. YHC arrived at 5:05 and was the third or fourth person there so the excitement was palpable. Suddenly it was 5:15 and a rapid and brief disclaimer was given and we were off.
Warm-O-Rama:
Mosey to the parking lot on the other side of the rec center for a warm-up including:
- SSH x15
- Weed Pickers x10
- Imperial Walkers x10
- Michael Phelps OYO
With my new Bluetooth speaker in tow, at some point in the warmup, I managed to pocket-dial my in-laws. They are fine in case you were wondering but we kept the conversation short :).
The Thang:
Thang Seven
Mosey to the closest pitch and set up in the far right back corner for a set of 3 corners. Starting with 25 big bois in corner #1, we sprinted across the end line to the other corner (#2) for 25 sumo squats. From there we ran the hypotenuse (look it up) to the far opposite corner (#3) for 25 Carolina Dry Docks/Stone Mountains. That was the first set. We rinsed and repeated two more times. Since there was an odd number of exercises we finished up with dry docks at corner #1.
Thang Seven of Diamonds
Mosey out the back gate and over to the second pitch which apparently had just been given a field nugget infusion. Before I lit up the previously placed board of pain I explained the general concept. Start with one exercise and do a set number of reps at four different stations arranged in a diamond pattern on the pitch. The gazelles will do a designated exercise for the six so we could start the early rounds together. Each round includes a different exercise with the rep count increased by 7 up to 28 and then back down by 7s.
- Burpees x 7 for a total of 28 – LBCs for the six
- Four count flutters x 14 – air press for the six
- Merkins x21 – standing lunges for the six
- Squats x 28 – big bois for the six
- Gas pumpers x 21 – no waiting for the six
- Hand-release merkins x14 – no waiting
- Mahktar ‘n Diayes x7
Most HIMs were on the last round when YHC checked the watch and realized it was almost time. Back to the flag for some mahktars/planks to finish strong.
COT:
Prayers for Chelsea who is going on week 2 with a fever and other Covid symptoms. His wife also has the virus and, with six kids, they are really in need of prayer for endurance, strength, and healing.
Prayers for Laces who had MRI on his knee yesterday and will get results on Friday. Pray for clear, actionable results and a quick recovery from whatever the doctors prescribe.
Prayers for Wicka wicka as he waits for a kidney donor.
A reminder of No Longer Bound beat down and dinner on Saturday, Sept 11 at 4 pm. We’d love to have a lot of guys show up and support these men in recovery. They really appreciate other men hanging out with them and treating them as equals (which they are). If you cannot make it and feel led to chip in a few bucks for the food we will provide, Venmo me @anthony-walsh-66. The last 4 of mobile is 5402 if asked.
Naked-Man Moleskin:
YHC wasn’t sure how long the planned activities would take and was thankful we almost finished the seven of diamonds. There is power in the fellowship of men doing hard things and trusting each other to push them without breaking them. It’s the boost I need to power me through the day. Thanks for trusting me and for working hard guys.
The hope was the Strava map would show a number 7 and a diamond. You be the judge…
