Shoulders and Dice
AO: Nirvana
When: 02/27/2022
QIC: Thud
PAX (7): Caffey, Hollywood, Lefty, No-See-Um, Special K, TheBurn, Thud
Preamble:
YHC had many long nights this week working to finalize business plans and financial projections for 2022. It was a long week. For this Q I decided to spare my tired brain and to minimize decisions and planning:
Step #1 steal coupons from Atlas (no one tell Sprocket or Rusty)
Step #2 set up workout dice on a tablet to randomly choose the exercises and repetitions
Great Coffeeteria afterward
Warm-O-Rama:
I ran through the usual stuff: weed pickers, Michael Phelps, Sun Gods, side straddle hops … but we had a lot of work ahead of us and we needed to get our backs and shoulders ready.
I quickly moved on to part two of the warmup: lots of Mercans – broken up into plain ‘ol on the ground Mercans and a mix of incline Mercans against the picnic tables.
One of the PAX did the quick mental math and announced that this part of the warm up totals 100 Mercans. At this point PAX nearly revolted and mumble chatter became mutinous.
We wrapped up the tortuous incline Mercan routine and proceeded to do wounded bear crawls and lunges to conclude the Warm-O-Rama.
The Thang:
We moseyed to back of the school to find 7 beautiful cinders. YHC broke out workout dice with the following:
Coupon exercises (Grey Dice)
- Curls
- Good Mornings
- Skull Crushers
- Deadlifts
- Squats
- Chest Press
Body Weight Exercises (Green Dice)
- Run to top of hill
- Shoulder Taps
- WW1’s
- Mercans
- LBC’s
- Lunges
PAX then proceeded to take turns rolling the dice and at each turn we did one coupon exercise and one body weight exercise. This kept things continually moving. There was a conspicuously high number of deadlifts and low number of curls – but the dice are random.
Nearing the end PAX moseyed back to the flag and finished with a few minutes of plank and core work.
COT:
Prayers for the people of Ukraine.
Psalms 46:9 says “He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth. He breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the shields with fire.” He says “be still and know that I am God.”
Naked-Man Moleskin:
Last night I was reminded how entirely grateful I am for the peace and prosperity that we live in. As I was fine tuning my playlist for a Nirvana beatdown (can never go wrong with music from our namesake, throw in some Beastie Boys and other early 2000’s) sipping a Scotch (Laphroaig) and looking out the windows of my home office into the cold black night – I thought about other men just like us but huddled in pockets around Ukraine fighting off an invasion. War is an evil part of the human condition.
