Pick Up the Q

AO: The Widowmaker

When: 02/22/2020

QIC: Zohan

PAX (14): White Claw, Dosido, Boomer, Special K, Hoochie, Devito, Mayhem, Pumba, Ha-Ha, FNG (My Pleasure), Birdie, Squirtle, Legos, Zohan

Preamble:

I knew I wanted to focus today’s BD on things I am not strong at (admittedly, not a short list) so chose abs and running. I knew I’ll struggle, though not that much.

Warm-O-Rama:

Mosey to the top of the Widow Maker for Weed Pickers, Mountain Climbers, SSH and Hill Billies.

The Thang:

Escalating Abs

One set is 1 Big Boy Sit Up, 2 Freddy Mercury, 3 American Hammers and 4 Flatter Kicks.

At the top of the Widow Maker do 1 set, run to the middle for 2 sets, 3 sets at the bottom, 4 sets back in the middle and 5 sets (5-10-15-20) back at the top. Plank for the six. 10 Burpees OYO.

Repeat, this time starting with 6 sets at the top and finishing with 10 sets (10-20-30-40). Plank for the 6. Again 10 Burpees OYO.

11s

Run on the trail to the neat intersection and called 11s of Merkins and Merkins. Yes, that was planned.

The run itself was also downhill/uphill, even if not as steep as the Widow Maker. Some PAX have a good memory of the first workout with Ha-Ha’s girlfriends on that trail.

The formula seems to be Terrible Workouts = Good Memories.

This one was certainly terrible for me and I was way behind the PAX.

Coupons

We moseyed back to the flag, or close enough, to pick up some mid size coupons. Our FNG took a coupon as large as some PAX I worked out with (Hi Waffles!). We reminded modifications can be done at any time.

YHC called IC for 20 Curls, 20 Shoulder Presses, 20 Squats (with coupon) and 20 Skull Crushers. We took a few seconds between exercises to flex the shoulders.

Restart with 15 of each.

I saw we had another minute and a half so called for rapid IC of 5 each, without stops.

Time.

COT:

Lots of things coming up in March. Try to follow up on Slack. Events include running and rucking challenges, as well as 3rd Fs.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

I don’t know if it’s my Jester, but I do struggle a lot with self doubt when it comes to leading. It’s fun to be at the front with the men running after you. Not fun to the at the back, the last person, especially when you’re the one who called out the workout. Still, I’m happy with my choices – the choice to lead today’s BD and the choice to focus on areas I suck at and want to get better at. At the end of the day, if I want to run better (or be better in general) there’s only one way to do it for real – embrace the suck.

As always, I thank the PAX around me!
