Preamble:

“Sounds like we have to bring back the pain to Nirvana! We can’t be getting soft” ~Pushback

Duly noted.  QIC engaged the help of Scar (known for both his toughness and painful beatdown ideas) and came up with not one but multiple suckfest options.  But, where oh, where to go for the week’s winner? F3Greenwood, of course.  Even with some of the Nirvana faithful downrange, a hearty crew posted for QIC’s twist on a brutal workout: The Kalsu.  Named in honor and memory of 1st Lieutenant James Robert Kalsu, 11th Artillery Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, US Army, who was killed in action on July 21st, 1970 in the A Shau Valley, Vietnam.

Also, to commemorate the 250th anniversary our nation’s premiere land-based fighting force: The U.S. Army, 250 was the number of reps to complete (and maybe just a few more to “grow on”).

Warm-O-Rama:

The usual suspects: weed pickers, SSH’s, sungods, Miguel Phelps, Mtn Climbers and the like.  Most were IC, rep counts ranged 15-20 each.  Then, down to the NMS track where the battle ropes gave everyone a chance to get his shoulders loosened up while PAX in waiting performed air squats.

The Thang:

The Thang

  • Kalsu – 100 thrusters
    • Start the ~1 minute EMOM timer
    • Perform 4 burpees
    • As soon as you finish the burpees, begin thrusters
    • When the timer goes off, do 4 burpees
    • Keep repeating this until you finish 100 thrusters
  • After 100 thrusters, perform 50 Foxholes
  • Reverse Kalsu – 100 burpees
    • Start your 100 burpees as soon as you get back
      • The timer continued. The PAX were at the mercy of the timer when they completed foxholes
    • Each time the EMOM timer goes off, 4 thrusters
    • Perform burpees in between until you get to 100 burpees
  • Workout ends after your 100 burpees
  • “cooldown” laps were run until 6 completed his burpess

circle up for coupon work, jump rope and more battle ropes (40 reps) with battle rope station making for the “timer” as to when PAX rotated through stations.  Back to the flag and time.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

Happy birthday, US Army.  I salute all those in uniform that have kept our country free from despots for 250 years by maintaining an atmosphere where free institutions can floursih.  Sprocket out.
