Kidney-versary

AO: Gladiator

When: 01/10/2023

QIC: Brownie aka "Other"

PAX (13): 5-Way, Cheneral, defcon2, Delicious, DREAMER, Macbeth, Manchester, Mater, Moonshine, Spandex, Speedo, The Big Short

Preamble:

Today is the 4 year (plus 1 day) anniversary of my kidney donation to a neighborhood friend. I also like to Q around this time to help bring greater awareness to the need for living donors because the need is so great. So, after sharing that intro with the group, we were off on a donation focused beatdown.

Warm-O-Rama:

Short mosey to one of the concession stands near the baseball fields where we did the following:

  • 12 SSHs
  • 12 copperhead squats
  • World’s greatest stretch
  • 12 Moroccan night clubs

Now that we were good and warmed up, let the fun begin…

The Thang:

We began a series of exercises using the 21-15-9 rep count with about a 100 yd mosey down to the street and back in between set 1 and 2. After set 3, those who finished early were tasked with a variety of exercises until the “6” was finished:

Kangaroo jumps (basically box jumps on the planter walls)

Incline Mercans

Dips

Ndiayes, Mahktar

El Capitan (a new one for the PAX, but they seemed to get the hang of it and maintained their balance)

Yurpees (we modified slightly removing the clap at the top of the pushup)

*The combo of these exercises spells kidney (which I’m not sure the PAX picked up on) and by the time the PAX reached the end of round 1 of Yurpees any remaining mumble chatter about the Joajah Dawgs had ceased

We still had some time left so we did a shortened round of 12 reps of each of the following:

Lunges (single count)

Incline Mercans

V-ups

El Capitans (in place rather than up the hill) followed by a mosey back almost to the flag

Rocky Balboas on the parking lot curb

*Another combo to spell liver and we still had a minute or two left so we finished the mosey back to the flag where we lined up on that curb for one final exercise

15 Mike Tyson’s to close things out

COT:

The US became the 1st country in the world to reach 1 million donations (all types) in September 2022. However, over 100K people remain on the donor list in need of something to improve their lives. I encouraged the group to look for ways they could fill a need in their community (consider living donation, give blood, donate money to organizations that support these efforts).

Moonshine and Spandex both shared personal connections from their families and living donation.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

I am grateful to F3 for helping me be in the physical condition that I’m in that allowed me to not only donate, but recover quickly 4 years ago. No changes in my lifestyle and my friend is doing well. Reach out if you’re considering donating or want to learn more about the process.

Brownie out!
