The Steve Miller Band Tribute

AO: Grindstone

When: 05/16/2022

QIC: Spit Valve

PAX (15): Benny, Chinstrap, Congo, Crab Cake, emeril, jugdish, Mr. Hand, Schneider, Snowman, Spit Valve, Swiper, Valley Girl, Whiz, Striker, Bill Dance

Preamble:

Getting the Q in these parts has become challenging so it was only after last minute negotiation with Swiper that I was able to lead the fine men of Grindstone on my 45th birthday.

Warm-O-Rama:

The workout began with a mosey towards the entrance only to be rerouted back to the flag when Swiper came in hot on two wheels. Warm-o-rama in the back parking lot commenced shortly thereafter. After usual disclaimer, YHC led the PAX in SSH, Weed Pickers, Willy Mays Hayes and good mornings. Feeling that we still needed a little something special for warm-o-rama on my birthday, one round of bat wings commenced to everyone’s delight.

The Thang:

The Thang part 1: Bear Crawl Suicides that went a little something like this. Line up on the goal line, bear crawl to 5 yard line and complete 5 LBCs. Run back to goal line. Bear crawl to 10 yard line, 10 LBCs, run back to goal line. You get the idea and since this is my 45th birthday we continued until we reached the 45 yard line. For anyone counting, that’s a total of 225 LBCs and 225 yards of bear crawl.

The Thang part 2: After a quick stop between fields for 15 dips, 15 inclined merkins (urkins?) and 15 step ups (that totals 45 btw), all PAX continued around the fields to the parking lot where our next Thang began. I forgot to mention, throughout all of this glorious morning we were treated to The Steve Miller Band’s greatest hits so after partnering up, one PAX ran around one section of the parking lot while the other partner completed AMRAP of the selected exercise for each song. We started with burpees followed by merkins, squats and WWII sit-ups.

It was time to head back to the flag for a couple quick rounds of Mary doing Freddy Mercury and American Hammers. With 15 seconds left to kill we squeezed in 1-2 burpees.

COT:

Prayers requested for Mr. Hand’s Uncle who is being transitioned to Hospice care in North Florida. Prayers for Mr. Hand and family as they travel to be with him.

Praise for the 3rd F event at the Bald Ridge Lodge over the weekend. This is hopefully the start of something great in F3 Cumming.

Prayers for Emeril and family as this was his farewell BD. Emeril is a regular in F3 Cumming and has positively influenced the lives of many PAX. His prepre running with Whiz, Crab Cake, others as well as solo early morning runs are legendary. Good luck brother. You will be missed but you are welcome back anytime.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

It was an honor to lead yet again on my birthday. My schedule has been unpredictable lately as I’ve been spending a lot of time working on a home remodel in Blairsville. Even though I’ve been less consistent, know that I’m always thinking about my fellow PAX, following you on Strava and wishing I was there to join in the fun.

Having my 2.0 join (Striker – 15) as well as FNG Bill Dance (my daughter’s boyfriend – 17) on my birthday was also something special. I know it takes a lot for them to get up at 5:00 and workout with us old guys before going to school for the day. Their willingness to do it means more than they know.
