Preamble:

This Q spot has been reserved since the beginning of 2021, way before we even thought about the Boneyard or I knew that I’d have a baby 2 weeks prior. Nevertheless, I was more than happy to keep my obligation and deliver the pain at the Gladiator the day after my birthday.

There was some talk of a pre-run but with no Dreamer around no one made it out at 0445. YHC arrived about 10 minutes early to do some prep on the field. As I wrapped up, lumbergh was rolling in on an apparent shuffle visit. A crowd soon gathered, including some special visitors from Hoppylike.

Warm-O-Rama:

Mosey to the parking lot at Eves Rd. Skip the speed bump burpees today because I was feeling nice. In lieu of 32 SSH, we did high knees for a while, then Imperial Walkers x 15, Weedpickers x 10 or 12. Get in (and stay in) plank position, Mountain Climbers x 12, Alternating Shoulder Taps x 12, and Mercans x 12.

Mosey to the coupon pile.

The Thang:

Grab a good-sized rock for the Gorilla Complex. 8 curls, 8 high pulls, 8 OH press, 8 tricep extensions, 8 mercans in rapid sequence. Short mosey to the bottom light pole and back. Rinse and repeat x 5. Spandex wanted to know why it’s called Gorilla Complex. At least he didn’t ask why a pushup is called a merkin.

Return coupon, then Indian Run to the field.

The PAX found 8 cones arrayed on the field for an Uptown 50 (cones at the red line and the baseline, spread along each line). At each cone was a card with a method of movement. PAX will partner up and complete 8 burpees at the first cone, then move via the prescribed method to the next cone, then move back to the original cone via the new method, then move to the next pair of cones. It made about as much sense when I explained during the beatdown, but I think the PAX figured it out pretty quickly.

Methods of movement were Wheelbarrow (1 for each partner), Lt. Dan, Bear Crawl, Crab Walk, Sprint, Bernie Sanders, and Burpee Broad Jump. The guys loved the Burpee Broad Jumps. Highly recommended.

With a few minutes left, the PAX were begging the Q for something else to do. Lined up on the baseline, then run to the far end for 32 squats, back to the start, then run to midfield for 16 squats, return to baseline. We headed back to the flag just in time for Scar to lead 32x Dying Cockroach.
