Preblast then plan

AO: The Widowmaker

When: 08/07/2021

QIC: Speedo

PAX (10): Haha (RR), Pepsi, Funyon (R), Cox, YouTube, Overdraft (R), Skippy, Write-off, NRA, Speedo

Preamble:

A busy week didn’t allow for much beat-down planning so YHC decided a pre-blast gif (or is it gif?) was in order on Friday afternoon to hopefully stimulate the creativity.  It kinda sorta worked if you didn’t know what to expect.  Nine other PAX showed up on a warm morning, disclaimer given and we were off.

Warm-O-Rama:

Mosey to top parking lot for:

  • SSH x15
  • Weedpickers x11
  • Good mornings x10 oyo

The Thang:

Thang 1 was a Sheldon Cooper but with no track to run on we modified as necessary.  Since the park was very busy with the 5k staging and some sort of soccer camp we ran on the main road but against traffic to ensure we could get the make and model of any car that ran us over.  We ran for ~1/4 mile then stopped for 10 burpees, 10 squats, 10 merkins, and 10 big boy sit-ups.  Run again then stop for 9 of each.  Rinse and repeat for 8, 7, 6 which gave us one full loop plus some.  YHC didn’t do a good job planning how we’d transition between each set so did a variety of Bernie Sanders and running then planking for the six so we started each round together.  At some point, we quit doing the sit-ups to save time for the other hastily planned fun.  Somewhere along the way Ha-ha casually mentioned that Birdie had the Q at the Norseman on Thursday and included this same exercise.  I think it was his way of thanking me for allowing him to do it again two days later.

Rather than continue the Sheldon Cooper from 5 down to 1 and risk boring the PAX, YHC decided to audible to a Route 66.  Start running.  At the first sign do one merkin then keep running.  At the second sign do two merkins, etc.  Let’s just say there are a LOT of signs on the back half of the park and if we had stopped at every sign we would have lost some arms and shoulders.  We finished up at the top of the Widowmaker with round 15 (120 total merkins). Cox proudly proclaimed he was a wreck (or he was wrecked?).

Mosey to the pitch where they were setting up for some sort of soccer camp with cones all over the place.  We lined up on the end line for a Quarter Pounder:

  • Run to the 18-yard line and do 25 monkey humpers then Bernie back to the end line
  • Run to midfield for 50 squats, Bernie back
  • Run to the other 18-yard line for 75 single-count plank jacks, Bernie back
  • Run to the far end line for 100 LBCs, Bernie back

YHC did not forget that we failed to finish the Sheldon Cooper so we started at the corner of the field for the round of 5 then ran to each corner for 4, 3, 2, and 1 at the corner where we started.

Just enough time for a little mary with American Hammers, flutter kicks, and gas pumpers until time was called.

COT:

Darth Visor CSAUP is on 8/21 at Big Creek Park.  0645 start.  Check Slack for details.  Widowmaker is closed that day.

Ha-ha reminded us when and what the Blue Ridge Relay is.  There was much disappointment when the PAX learned registrations were closed.  Check the PAX list above for pre-orders for next year (except YHC, I have other plans that weekend).

Prayers for Zohan as he enjoys the GrowRuck event in Charlotte this weekend.  Think about him when you crack that first beer later today :).

Prayers for Funyon friend with Covid.  Prayers for wisdom for each of us to know how to deal with Covid and other challenges we experience.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

I love the mumble chatter and camaraderie of an F3 beat down.  People are undoubtedly in some pain but they still have something funny or clever to add and it really helps keep me going.  The grunts and groans help too as it tells me I’m not the only one struggling.  Everyone worked really hard today and I appreciate each of you who was able to post.  My Saturday is better because you guys showed up…thank you.
