Preamble:

The pre-blast message on Twitter told the PAX to be ready for an “Over the Hill” team beatdown to celebrate YHC’s 40th birthday.  Lots of mumble chatter about the 100% rainy weather didn’t stop 14 PAX from posting and getting stronger.  At 5:29am during a steady, but light rain, YHC was presented with a 30lb weighted vest for to wear the rest of the morning as a birthday gift of some sort.  So that I did.

Warm-O-Rama:

After a quick disclaimer, we headed to the rock pile to pickup some coupons for the main event.  We moseyed to the parking lot on Wills Rd for 40 Side Straddle Hops.  That concluded the warmup as we had bigger things to accomplish.

The Thang:

The PAX were told to break into 2 groups.  One group of over 40 and one group of 40 and under.  The young pups had to borrow No-See-um who was just a shade over 41 in order to even up the numbers.  The PAX was then tasked to come up with an average age of their respective teams.  The old men came up with 44, the young stallions 40.  More on these numbers momentarily…  We moseyed to Broke Back Mtn to kickoff the event.

OVER THE HILL

  • The main event consisted of a team race up and over the hill with coupons
  • For instance, half of the old men would stay to do 22 (44 divided in half) lunges up the hill, while the remaining team would run to the top
  • The young guys would do 20 lunges (40 divided in half) while the other half of their team ran the hill
  • The rule was that half of the runners had to make it to the top in order to start the trek back down the hill
  • Once the lungers completed their set amount, they would do reps of 40 curls, 40 air press, 40 skull crushers, 40 rows until the runners returned

**The result was that the old geezers took advantage of the extra lunge reps and made their way to the top first.  Congrats to them and their old balls.

On the way back to the flag we stopped for a quick 40 second BTTW stint during the pouring rain.  60 seconds for extra credit.  YHC is proud to report he accomplished the extra credit in the weighted vest.  As I type this here late in the day, my shoulders do not approve.

Back to the flag for 3 minutes of Mary in the large puddles now forming in the parking lot, including Freddie Mercury and the Swimmer (to ensure we got both sides of our bodies wet).

COT:

Prayers were spoken for a young child Eli who recently passed.  Everyone was encouraged to stick around after the beatdown for a little sweet treat courtesy of MillerTime.  Much appreciated, brotha!  And good to see No-See-Um back at his original home.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

Another trip around the sun completed and I couldn’t imagine doing it without my F3 brothers.  Days like today rolling around in the rain puddles and competing at silly games help remind us how to be young again.  Even though I am officially “over the hill” now, I still feel like a kid inside.  Thankful, grateful & blessed.
