12 Pains of Christmas/VQ 1y anniversary

AO: The Widowmaker

When: 12/05/2020

QIC: Speedo

PAX (14): Hot Sauce, Pit Stop, Nacho Libre, Saint2O, Precious (downrange from Johnson City, TN), Skippe, NRA, Cox, Zohan, Birdie, Youtube, TMI, Boomer, Speedo

Preamble:

Preparing for this Q, YHC remembered my VQ was about a year ago on 12/10/19 so I decided to revise that workout and bring it to the Widowmaker.  Four PAX showed up for a pre-ruck with our new friend Sandy (the 60# sandbag) and eight more brave souls were waiting for the beatdown when we returned.

Warm-O-Rama:

After a disclaimer we ran to the bottom of the Widowmaker.  YHC had plans to use Sandy during the beat down so she was on my shoulders on the way down.  At the bottom we circled up for:

  • SSH x12
  • Weed pickers x12
  • Hillbillies x12

YHC was huffing and puffing so much with Sandy on my shoulders on the way down that I forgot to tell the PAX to grab a curl-able coupon so I had them run halfway up the WM to do that and asked them to pick one up for me as I set up the workout.  Bad decision…Nacho and Boomer reportedly had a grand time looking for a plus-sized coupon for me.  Let’s just say it wouldn’t have been the one I would have chosen but I’m thankful they were willing to lend me a hand.

The Thang:

The 12 Pains of Christmas – each round starts with a run and we add an exercise + 4 more reps each time.

  • Day 1 – run to the end of the guardrail and back down (12)
  • Day 2 – 8 burpees (88)
  • Day 3 – 12 thrusters with coupon (120)
  • Day 4 – 16 Big Boi Sit-ups (144)
  • Day 5 – 20 Merkins (160)
  • Day 6 – 24 coupon curls (168)
  • Day 7 – 28 double-count flutter kicks (168)
  • Day 8 – 32 Monkey Humpers (160)
  • Day 9 – 36 double-count Mountain Climbers (144)
  • Day 10 – 40 LBCs (120)
  • Day 11 – 44 squats (88)
  • Day 12 – 48 skull crushers (48)

FYI the number after each exercise in the list above is the total number of reps if you got through all 12 days (which 3-4 guys did).  Total reps for the entire thing was 1,420 and I’m pretty sure most guys broke 1,000.  NICE WORK AND GREAT EFFORT BY ALL.

Surprisingly (maybe not), most mumble chatter was about the ‘eclectic’ playlist which just helped take our minds off of the ‘fun’ exercises.  Here’s a link to the playlist in case you’re in the mood for “Raining Tacos” or “Redneck Christmas”:  https://music.amazon.com/user-playlists/6f53ba83f53544bea696cbc1fd5e545asune?ref=dm_sh_3JN7Cyp60aliDJ7d4ksmHuHcg

COT:

Santa Ruck is next Saturday so NO WIDOWMAKER on 12/12/20.  Check Slack for details on the fundraiser/ruck.  Your efforts will bless people you’ll never know which is a great reason to give/share.

Several prayer requests lifted up for healing, recovery (incl. from loss of a home to fire), and release from the bondage of shame.  In my own experience, shame is insidious and usually forces us further into isolation which causes a downward spiral.  We’re afraid to admit our mistakes/sins and then we are afraid others will find out so we try to hide even more.  That’s exactly what Satan wants in my opinion but, by bringing our mistakes out into the light (i.e. by telling a trusted friend, spouse, F3 brother, etc.), God can and will redeem you and show you a better way forward.

We enjoyed some delicious eggnog cake prepared by Zumba (Mrs. Zohan) and it was amazing.  Thanks again for that nice treat Zohan/Zumba.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

I always enjoy posting at the Widowmaker and appreciate everyone putting up with the CSAUP (completely stupid and utterly pointless) exercises as we grew stronger physically and mentally together.
