The Hawk Cometh

Preamble:

Growing up in Vermont, we had a saying about the first REAL cold day of Winter – it was the Hawk coming down from the North.  Well, with the trusty weather station reporting a balmy 19F at 0500 this morning, the Hawk was in town to welcome 18 PAX to the early beginnings of Winter.

Warm-O-Rama:

Q wanted to get the PAX moving which meant a quick round of SSH’s while waiting for Bieber to arrive, then mosey along the (icy) trail toward the football field for the following warm-ups:

• Abe Vigodas
• Hillbillys
• Superman Merkins (took some coaxing to get PAX to embrace the frozen tundra on this one)
• Flying Merkins

The Thang:

Count off by 2’s and line up at the goal-line in linear arrangement.  All PAX start crab-walking backwards towards the far goal-line, while the 6 bear-crawls toward the front of the line.  Once the bear-crawling PAX gets 5 yards ahead, the next PAX (at the end) bear-crawls to the front.  Continue this pattern until reaching the opposite goal-line.  Rinse/repeat back to the original goal-line, and plank for the six.

Next, mosey toward the playground and select a partner upon arrival.  Each team fetch a coupon for some rounds of back and grip/forearm work.  Round 1 went as follows:

• Partner 1 does 20 Rows with coupon.
• Partner 2 does 5 traditional Pull-Ups and hangs until Partner 1 is finished.
• Switch roles, and repeat for 3 rounds.

Round 2 consisted of the following:

• Partner 1 does 20 Rows with coupon.
• Partner 2 does 5 inverted Pull-Ups (under a swing, etc) and hangs until Partner 1 is finished.
• Switch roles, and repeat for 3 rounds.

Finally, round 3 went as follows:

• Partner 1 does 15 Rows with coupon.
• Partner 2 hangs on Pull-Up  bar until Partner 1 is finished.
• Switch roles, and repeat for 3 rounds.

Next up, a quick round of Jack Webbs with coupon rotation (1:4 Merkin:Overhead Press ratio, counting to 10 and rotating coupons after each round).  This would be easier than YHC’s typical version, as only half the PAX had a coupon.  As is typical, Q was the lucky recipient of a coupon of revenge for the last round.

With T-10 left on the clock, time for a lightning round of The Foley before heading back to the flag.

Short rounds of American Hammers and Superman Merkins before calling time.
