Curveball

AO: The Rubicon

When: 08/15/2019

QIC: AFLAC

PAX (9): Lumbergh, Miller Time, Zima, Top Hat, Devito, Pellets, Pinky, AFLAC, Squeegee

Preamble:

YHC has earned the reputation of bringing some variation on The Murph to his Q as of late, so the Rubicon PAX were on solid ground expecting a healthy dose of Pull-Ups, Merkins, and Squats.  With that in mind (and with Squeegee tending to a bad wheel), YHC decided to throw the PAX a curveball that they weren’t expecting.

Warm-O-Rama:

Slow mosey toward the community pool and gather in the upper parking lot for the following:

  • Hillbilly’s
  • Abe Vigoda’s
  • Merkins
  • Weed Picker’s

The Thang:

Mosey toward FOD and direct all PAX to fetch a lifting coupon.  Once at the field, put coupon aside and partner up for a game of Rescue Me If You Can.  We segmented the perimeter of the field into 4 stations:  right-field pole, deep center, left-field pole, and home plate.  Q instructed PAX to perform the following:

  • Partner A runs from home plate to the first station, while partner B crab-walks in the same direction.
  • Once at the first station, partner A does 10 Burpees, and bear-crawls back towards Partner B.
  • Once both partners meet up, run together to the next station and swap roles (partner B run/burpees while partner A crab-walks).
  • Rinse/repeat through all 4 stations.

With Devito setting a brisk pace, it appeared that he and Q would be earning a round of Mary while waiting for the remaining PAX.  It was exactly at this point that MT(?) breezed past us to the next station (having skipped the previous one), eliciting some choice comments from Q’s partner.

After gathering the six, Q determined that PAX needed a mulligan to get things right, which meant a repeat performance in the opposite direction.

Upon completing round 2, a quick round of Mary and more bear-crawls for the six, then a quick 10 count before moving on.

At this point, Q directed all PAX to fetch a coupon and circle-up for a round of Jack Webb’s, AFLAC style.  Per the F3 Exicon, Jack Webb’s are normally performed sans-coupon.  YHC likes to bring some fire to this one, by adding coupons and ensuring proper rotation throughout the PAX after each round.  The routine went as follows:

  • Perform 1 Merkin, then 4 Overhead Press with coupon.
  • Rotate coupon to the left.
  • Perform 2 Merkins, then 8 Overhead Press with coupon.
  • Rotate coupon to the left.
  • Rinse/repeat for 10 rounds.

Now, Q has a habit of picking a coupon that will deliver adequate downstream punishment for this exercise.  That being said, Q forgot to run the numbers today and was the fortunate recipient of his own punishment.  Credit to multiple PAX for toting some proper granite, as pocket rocks were the exception today.

With T-10 to go, PAX had time for a quick round of ascending curls/tricep-extensions.  Using the same rotation theme, perform sets of increasing reps until Q called time.  YHC made sure that Devito and Top Hat had a couple of turns at his favorite coupon.  At round 14, recovery was called and Q directed PAX to return said coupons to their rightful place and mosey back to the flag.

A quick round of Mary consisting of flutter-kicks and gas-pumpers before time as called.

COT:

  • The Pound (Athens) launching today.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

YHC shared a truth nugget today that made an impact on him over the past week.  The actor Danny Trejo recently helped to rescue a 5-year old special-needs child from a bad wreck in Los Angeles.  I watched a couple of news clips about this event, and he said something during an interview that really struck me:

“Everything good that has happened to me has happened as a direct result of helping someone else,” he said. “Everything.”

What an amazing outlook on life – one that we should be mindful of.  Be kind to others, help those that can’t keep up or need a hand, and take a moment to appreciate everything that you have in life.  It’s the selfless acts in life that tend to reap the greatest rewards.  Think about that.

AFLAC out.
