Dips and Derkins Redux

Preamble:

A beautiful morning to rise and shine and do hard things.  YHC didn’t have a lot of time to plan this beat down so I rinsed off a recent workout I led at a different AO hoping no one would notice (or at least care).  With the flags planted YHC provided a brief disclaimer and we were off.

Warm-O-Rama:

Mosey to the ultra-dark parking lot by the tennis courts (there used to be a light there I’m pretty sure) for:

  • SSH x15
  • Imperial Walkers x12
  • Weed Pickers x12

We picked up at least one late-arriving PAX and headed to the bottom of the back hill.

The Thang:

Several thangs on the menu this morning:

At the bottom of the hill instructed PAX to bear crawl up the hill to the top parking lot or as far as they could get.  At the top, we partnered up and YHC instructed P1 to do 10 burpees while P2 held a low air chair then flapjack.  Rinse and repeat for a total of 30 burpees per PAX.

Mosey to the pavilion by the pond/playground and each PAX grabbed a spot by a picnic table.  We rode up the dips/derkins escalator starting with 5 of each then 10, 15, 20.  Lots of grunts and groans especially as we reached the top.  After air-chairing for the 6 at the top, YHC had some good news and some bad news.  Someone asked for the bad news first so I informed them we had to come back down the escalator.  The good news was we started with 15, not 20.  So we did some more starting at 15 then 10, then 5.  Triceps were burning and of course, derkins are always such a pleasure.

Mosey to the brick building between the soccer fields.  Partnered up with P1 doing 20 crunchy frogs while P2 did balls to the wall.  Rinse and repeat a total of two times.

Mosey to the other pavilion and partnered up.  P1 did 30 merkins while P2 did canoe holds (or some version of sitting on their butt while not sure where to put their hands).  Rinse and repeat for a total of two times.

Mosey to the rec center wall where we once again partnered up.  P1 did 40 flutter kicks alpha while P2 performed a deep wall sit.  We only had time to repeat this once.

Mosey back to the flag where we partnered up one last time.  P1 did 50 squats while P2 held a low plank.  Repeat once.  Not content with my plank performance, YHC had the PAX drop back to a low plank.  When the abs were just about to catch fire we switched to a high plank and raised various appendages in the process.  Back to a low plank to failure (for me) then back to a high plank.  Noting that time was running out, we knocked out 10 last merkins and YHC called time.

COT:

Animal reminded us of the final day of ClimbKili on Sunday 2/28 when there will be a half-marathon beginning at 7 AM at the Kroger near the corner of Jones Bridge and State Bridge.  Coffee and donuts will be available afterward.

Prayers lifted up for Wicka’s blood work this week and for good news (and no dialysis).  Prayers for our nation as we passed the 500,000 deaths due to covid mark.  Please continue to take this virus seriously and do your part to keep yourself and others as safe as possible.  Prayers for wisdom for us, and for our leaders.
