National Stop Bullying Day – Meet at the Playground!

AO: Firehouse

When: 02/09/2021

QIC: Buckeye

PAX (9): Buckeye Lightweight Lifelock Skynard Ace Ventura Dash aka Starbucks Woody Schneider Suarez

Preamble:

In search of an obscure national holiday, Buckeye found that Feb 9th is National Stop Bullying Day. So it was decided that we would exercise at the place where the recess bully prowled – the playground. One way to stop a bully is to be bigger and stronger than the bully, so that is what we worked on today.

Warm-O-Rama:

Mosey around the parking lot to The Spot where we gathered up for warmups. Warmups included:

Side Straddle Hops

Weed Pickers

Sun Gods

Michael Phelps

The Thang:

We needed extra weights to build muscles so we can prevent bullying, so we used the sandbags for some of the exercises. 9 Exercise stations were set up so that each PAX had something to work on as follows:

  • Pull ups
  • Lunges – with 50 lb bag
  • Shoulder press or skull crushers – with 40 lb bag
  • Curls – with 50 or 30 lb bag
  • LBCs
  • Burpees
  • Freddie Mercury
  • Dips

Tunes were started, and were appropriate for the occasion, including Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” and Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” that played while each PAX did the Freddie Mercury exercise.

After a round of each exercise, we did a short mosey around 1/2 the parking lot and got back to another round. This was repeated for 3 rounds.

We gathered around the flagpole for one last exercise that was a doozy. We changed the tunes for one last song by AC/DC – a classic known as “Thunderstruck”. For this exercise we held a plank while the song played, and each time we heard the word “Thunder”, we did a merkin. The song seemed like an extended version, with more “Thunders” than we all remembered, and everyone was spent by the time the song ended. But we ended strong!

COT:

Prayer requests were for Script Kiddie’s extended family who is grieving. Also for Asphalt who wasn’t able to make it due to feeling a little sick. Lastly for Dash who is traveling to Nashville for safety while traveling.

Each PAX pushed themselves today and we became better men than we were yesterday. Thanks for the effort!
