24s & 8s…RIP Black Mamba

AO: The Grindstone

When: 01/27/2020

QIC: False Start

PAX (6): Cookie, Milli Vanilli, Snake, Inseam, Whiz

Warm-O-Rama:

We had a quick mosey around the baseball fields and then circled up for the following:

24 x SSH (this is where Whiz caught on to the theme of the day and the anticipation started to build)

8 x Weedpickers

8 x Imperial Walkers

9 x Windmills (YHC didn’t cadence in time…)

Mosey to the rock pile for a coupon and then to the football field.

The Thang:

We lost a legend and a great role model yesterday, so today was planned to have a lot of 24s, 8s, and some other key reps to honor the late Kobe Bryant.  Let’s get to it:

Taking a cue from an “All about the Benjamins” routine we did 24 reps of the following:

  • Curls
  • Walking Lunges (Alpha with the coupon)
  • Jumping Squats (talks of coupons, but we decided to let them rest)
  • Walking Lunges

That wasn’t enough, so we decided to go again, continuing the 24 theme:

  • Overhead Presses
  • Walking Lunges (Alpha with the coupon, because that was so fun the first time)
  • Skullcrushers
  • Walking Lunges

Funny thing (or is it…), you add that all up and you’re 8 shy of 200 reps (wasn’t coincidence, definitely planned), so we finished with 8 merkins.

We had to keep paying tribute, so we ran a Black Snake (Mamba) with 8 plank jacks for the tail and then sprint through the group to catch up.  Twice around the field.

The group was pumped again, so we took another cue from a 7 of Diamonds routine and made it an 8 at each corner:

  • Burpees
  • Merkins
  • Flutter Kicks
  • Dolly

We needed more, and there were moans about having to do 16 reps, but we decided on 13 reps to honor Kobe’s daughter who also passed (too soon). 13 at each corner to finish out the same routine.

Almost done, the coupons still needed love though, so we circled up and did 20 bent over rows (for his 20 seasons) and then made our way around the circle 6 times to make sure we were able to try each other’s coupon.

5 mins left (5 championships by the way) so we circled up for some mary lead by each PAX:

  • Dying Cockroach
  • T-Bombs
  • Box Cutters
  • American Hammer
  • Gas Pumper
  • LBCs
  • Freddie Mercury’s

Done

COT:

Prayers for Sculley and the rest of the PAX as they continue on their trip in Chimbote.

The takeover of The Firehouse is coming up, make the trip if you can!

Naked-Man Moleskin:

Events of this past weekend are shocking on many levels.  At first there is dismissal:  it’s not me or I’d never be in that situation, but upon further reflection we should remember that life is fragile.  It’s a gift every day that we get to be with our families, hug our loved ones, and share in the gloom with other HIM.  I feel deeply for all the families involved with this horrific tragedy, but I’m also using it to deepen my relationship with those around me. Time is the one thing we can’t get back, don’t take it for granted.

Until next time!
