AO: The Bridge

When: 01/24/2020

QIC: Pooh Bear

PAX (9): Ace, Stickers, Olaf (FNG), Popper, Ballboy, Ready-Mix, Animal, Meatball, Pooh Bear

Preamble:

January 23, 2019 was my first beatdown.  A year and a day later, I had the privilege of leading 8 PAX for a circuit style romp at The Bridge.  While we often get wet when meeting in the gloom, wisdom dictated we choose a better suited location than the green space we normally congregate.  YHC was quite surprised all of the guys met under the parking deck.  It appears the Twitter group message app our AO favors worked just fine, thank you very much!

Warm-O-Rama:

YHC started with a disclaimer for the new guy, and we moseyed back into the rain to our normal meeting spot, just to make sure there weren’t any stragglers.  A lap around the parking deck and back down the ramp to our start, followed by:

Side Straddle Hop

Wind Mill

Weed Pickers

Forward/Backward Arm Circles

The Thang:

YHC brought some unknown heavy objects that most people refer to as “dumbbells” and passed them out to the lucky participants.  Each PAX performed an exercise while a lone runner was sent to loop around the parking deck.  When he arrived back at the group, we rotated to a new exercise or run.

Derkins (feet on the coupon)

Sumo Squat (30# dumbbell)

Lunge Walk (20# dumbbells)

Skull Crusher (30# dumbbell)

Pistol Squat

Burpees (jump over a coupon)

Werkins

Curl & Press (12# dumbbells)

Run

We nearly made it through the circuit twice.

COT:

Name-0-rama – Welcomed Elliot from Minnesota, and settled on the name Olaf.  He was invited by Popper – good job!

Prayers for my mother, who is currently battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer.  Mention of a 2F opportunity to support Animal’s band at the Corner Pub in Decatur on March 14.

Naked-Man Moleskin:

In 2011, I got tired of being lazy and out of shape.  I ordered P90X, and found out that my brother had ordered it in the same week as me!  We did our 90 days, and got in better shape.  We checked in with each other (he’s in NY) and encouraged/belittled each other along the way.  I loved feeling in shape again.  The problem with that type of system, in my opinion, is it gets old.  Watching the same videos over and over can get boring!  For 7 years, I ping-ponged in my commitment to my fitness. I played racquetball with friends and kept on trying different video workouts.

A breakthrough came for me in January 2019 when Tigger told me about F3.  I skipped that Monday because the temps were supposed to be in the high teens.  No thanks!  However, I did come out that Wednesday in 22 degree weather.  I am very thankful for this group of guys who meet regularly to push each other to be better men, fathers, husbands, coworkers, and friends.

More important than our fitness is the support our tribe extends to our members.  I know I can count on your support as my family goes through this trial with my mother’s health.  Your support means more than you know.
